Y-Town Tech Tour set for Dec. 27

The second annual Y-Town Tech Tour will be Thursday, Dec. 27, in downtown Youngstown.

The event is designed to introduce Youngstown’s rapidly growing technology career opportunities and emerging research focus to visitors who are home for the holidays. It is free and open to the public.

Guests can take a one-hour tour of the Youngstown Business Incubator at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and learn more about the 400-plus jobs created in the computer science and information systems fields in Youngstown. Representatives from YBI portfolio companies will be on hand to present information on their technologies and businesses

Martin Abraham, dean of Youngstown State University’s College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will be available to discuss YSU’s research initiatives, the college’s new PhD program in materials science and engineering, Youngstown’s new National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, and the YSU Natural Gas and Water Resources Institute.

OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology will be open for exploration and experimentation from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tour participants should stop in to discover interactive exhibits and experience the Center’s STEM EDUtainment. OH WOW! will also be offering a special program as part of the Tech Tour called “Reverse Engineering – Toy Deconstruction.”

Several Downtown restaurants plan to offer lunch specials and discounts to Y-town Tech Tour guests.
