Trees fill Sacherman lot

New trees were planted on YSU's campus, and students hold up the "Tree Campus USA" sign.Members of the Youngstown Environmental Studies Society celebrate the creation of a new garden at the former location of the Sacherman House on Lincoln Avenue.

The house was demolished earlier this year after it was found to be in violation of city code. In its place, YSU has planted seven trees and several shrubs. Longer-term plans include installation of a walkway and a seating area.

On hand for the planting was Carol Sacherman and members of the Campus Beautification Working Group and the YSU Campus Grounds Department. For three consecutive years, YSU has been certified by the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus USA program.
