More than 80 gifted high school students throughout the region are participating this week in the 2012 Summer Honors Institute at Youngstown Sate University.
Students attend a variety of courses and hands-on activities in a wide range of disciplines taught by university professors and area school educators. Among the courses: Potato Cannon, Entrepreneurship, Crime Scene Analysis, International Business, Harry Potter, Geocaching, Healthcare in the 21st Century, Documentary Filmmaking, Acting Improvisation and Game Theory.
Participants spend Monday through Thursday immersed in classes and hands-on, active learning experiences. On Friday, students participate in learning activities in the morning and are provided information about YSU majors and services during a college fair. The week concludes with an afternoon Friday celebration where participants demonstrate what they learned in their courses to friends, family members and guests.
