Wednesday, Jan. 23, 12:15 p.m. A horn recital is featured at a free Music at Noon concert in the Butler Institute of American Art.

Thursday, Jan. 24, 8:30 a.m. Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the 117thelected and consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, is the keynote speaker at YSU’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Breakfast in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus also includes the presentation of the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Awards. More here.

Thursday, Jan. 24, 6 to 8 p.m. Opening reception for the 2013 Mid America Print Council Juried Exhibition at the McDonough Museum of Art on the YSU campus. More here.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 24, 25, 26 and 27. University Theater opens 2013 with the comedy/drama “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” in Bliss Hall’s Spotlight Arena. For performance times and ticket information, click here.

Friday, Jan. 25. 3 p.m. Men and women teams from about a dozen area colleges and universities compete in the YSU Invitational track meet at the WATTS on the YSU campus.

Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25 and 26, 8 p.m. Ward Beecher Planetarium at YSU features “Footsteps.” The planetarium also screens “The Super Sky Show” 1 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25.

Clint Hurdle

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle is a featured speaker at the YSU baseball breakfast this week.

Saturday, Jan. 26. YSU’s baseball program holds its annual First Pitch Breakfast at McMenamy’s Restaurant and Banquet Center in Niles. Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle and Major League umpire Wally Bell are featured speakers. More information here.

Saturday, Jan. 26, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nearly 350 resident assistants and other housing officials from 17 colleges and universities throughout the region attend the Northeast Ohio Housing Officers Conference at YSU. Saturday, Jan. 26. Men and women basketball doubleheader at Beeghly Center. The men play Cleveland State at 2:05 p.m., followed by the women vs. Loyola at 4:35 p.m. From noon to 2 p.m., prior to the doubleheader, the YSU Athletic Department hosts the fifth annual Basketball Kid’s Day at Stambaugh Stadium, presented by Panera Bread. Sunday, Jan. 27, 7 to 8 p.m. Chris Herren, former college and NBA basketball player, speaks about addiction and recovery in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. The event is free and open to the public. Herren realized his lifelong dream to play for the Boston Celtics and lost it all to alcohol and drug addiction. Sober since Aug. 1, 2008, Herren has refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else.
