YSU IIE Chapter receives Gold Award

InstituteofindustrialengineersThe Youngstown State University Chapter #859 of the Institute of Industrial Engineers is one of only 36 university chapters nationwide to received IIE’s Gold Award for 2014.

Only four universities in the Great Lake region were deemed Gold for the 2014 academic year– YSU, Ohio State, Michigan and Purdue. IIE is the world’s largest professional society dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity.

Faculty advisor Martin Cala, YSU professor and coordinator of Industrial & Systems Engineering programs, said the Chapter’s year was highlighted by bringing professional programming to the YSU campus providing IIE Six Sigma Green Belt training and certification for 44 students.

The YSU chapter has 25 members. Cala credited officers of the chapter for the award, including James D’Andrea, President, BE/IE 2014, Sylvia Grdina, Vice-President, BE/IE 2014, David Macek, Secretary, Robert Richardson, Treasurer and Ted Mullan,  BE/IE 2014, Professional Programs Liaison.
