Xiangjia “Jack” Min, assistant professor, Biological Sciences and Center for Applied Chemical Biology, with co-authors Braden Walters, a YSU undergraduate student, graduate student Gengkon Lum, and Gaurav Sablok, a collaborator in Italy, published a research article titled “Genome-wide landscape of alternative splicing events in Brachypodium distachyon” in DNA Research. Also with Lum, Min published a book chapter titled “Bioinformatic protocols and the knowledge-base for secretomes in fungi” in Laboratory Protocols in Fungal Biology: Current Methods in Fungal Biology.
John Feldmeier, associate professor, Physics and Astronomy, co-authored a paper entitled “The Extended Optical Disk of M101” for the Astrophysical Journal with Chris Mihos from Case Western Reserve University.
Randy Hoover, professor, Curriculum Education, wrote a chapter titled “Animating Democracy: The Civic and Pedagogical Imperatives,” in Educating for Democratic Consciousness: Counter-Hegemonic Possibilities by Peter Lang Publishing, released in December.
Zara C. Rowlands, director, Didactic Program in Dietetics, was named 2013 Outstanding Dietetic Educator by the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She will receive the award at the annual OAND Conference in May in Columbus.
William Greenway, professor, English, had his poem “Perrfect” published in the Fall/Winter 2012 Soundings Review.
Master’s theses of two graduate students whose work was overseen by Michael T. Butcher, assistant professor, Biological Sciences, have been published. The thesis of Pano Hazimihalis, titled “Myosin isoform fiber type and fiber size in the tail of the Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana),” was published in the January issue of The Anatomical Record. The thesis of Lexi Moore, titled “Architectural specialization of the intrinsic thoracic limb musculature of the American badger (Taxidea taxus),” was published in the January issue of the Journal of Morphology.
