Tuesday, Oct. 2, 7 p.m. The YSU Economics Club presents its 2012 Economic Debate and Forum at the DeBartolo Stadium Club at Stambaugh Stadium. Panelists are Atty. David Betra, chair of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, and Brenda Mack, president of the Ohio Black Republicans Association.

Wednesday, Oct. 3, noon. Brown bag lunch focusing on “What is Diversity,” sponsored by the YSU Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity and the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. The event is at the Main Branch of the library on Wick Avenue. For more information, call 330-941-3370.

Wednesday, Oct. 3, 12:15 p.m.  Dana School of Music presents a free “Music at Noon” choral concert continue in the Butler Institute of American Art.

Thursday, Oct. 4, 12:30 p.m. Julianna Acheson of the University of Maine presents a free lecture about the institution of marriage from the perspective of cultures beyond the West. The lecture is in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus and is part of the 2012-13 Community Diversity Program presented by the YSU Diversity Council.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4, 5, 6 and 7. University Theater presents Anton Chekhov’s comedy/drama “The Cherry Orchard” in Spotlight Arena Theater in YSU’s Bliss Hall. Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., while Sunday matinee performances are at 3 p.m. Performances also are set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12, 13 and 14. Thursday, Oct. 4, 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. YSU’s Ward Beecher Planetarium presents a fund-raising premiere of its new full-dome movie, “Cosmic Castaways.” The event starts with a reception on the first floor of Maag Library at 7 p.m., followed by the movie in the planetarium at 8:30 p.m. Admission to the premiere is $75 per person with proceeds going to the planetarium and Cosmoquest. Make reservations here. “Cosmic Castaways” makes its public debut at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 in the planetarium, followed by another screening at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. Friday, Oct. 5, noon. “Air Quality Issues Related to Oil and Gas Development” is the topic of a presentation in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center by Deborah R. Cowden, MD. More here.

Saturday, Oct. 6, noon to 3 p.m. The main event of the annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration is in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the campus of YSU.

Saturday, Oct. 6, 2 p.m. The YSU football team looks to remain undefeated as it takes on North Dakota State in Fargo. The game will be broadcast live on 21 WFMJ-TV. More at YSU Sports.

Sunday, Oct. 7, 3 p.m. Non-Violence Parade & Rally. The parade begins at the YSU Williamson College of Business and ends with a rally downtown. For more information, call 330-941-3370.
