YSU campaign brings in nearly $39,000 for United Way

The YSU community pledged $38,262.80 this year in support of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.

The campaign included 24 first-time donors, and 11 percent of 2011 donors increased their pledges this year. One in four YSU donors elected the Continuous Giving or Payroll Deduction options to spread their payments over the calendar year.

Additional collection events this year included: Pete & Penny Campus Days on Nov. 7 and 13, made possible by six student volunteers; a free Ice Cream Social on Nov. 15 through the generous donation of Handel’s Ice Cream; and the Chance Auction on Dec. 6 that featured 17 gift baskets/ items donated by various departments and individuals.

This year, United Way provided Familywize free prescription discount cards valid through Dec. 31, 2020, that were mailed to all campus employees at the start of the campaign.  Donors were able to designate 50 percent of their gift to a specific non-profit organization with a minimum gift of $100.

Prize winners of the $100 Best Buy Gift Card, the $75 YSU Bookstore Gift Card, and $25 YSU Bookstore Gift Card were Dennis Petruska of Economics, Teresa Riley of the Provost’s Office, and Susan Shaw of Human Resources, respectively.  The winner of the 2013 Chevy Cruze was Myra Vitto of PNC Bank, and the $250 Giant Eagle GetGo Gas Card winner was Corey Davoll of Turning Technologies.
