YSU alumni and members of the news media are invited to attend the event and news conference sponsored by the YSU Office of Alumni and Events Management.
“Alumni Society members are the first to learn about certain events and generally feel more connected with campus,” said Jackie LeViseur, interim director of Alumni and Events Management and a YSU graduate. “We want to reach out to our graduates so more alumni have that experience.”
Earlier this year, alumni were asked to submit ideas to name the campaign. YSU graduate and Alumni Society Board Member Brian Pinkerton of Wadsworth, Ohio, came up with the slogan, “Your Membership Matters.”
“It seemed fitting because it is really two-fold. Your membership matters not only to YSU but also to yourself,” Pinkerton said. “For me, being part of the Alumni Society has been a way of expressing my Penguin pride.”
At the event, alumni will to learn about the various ways to join the Alumni Society. Dues start at $30 per year, but there are several options, including life membership. Anyone joining or renewing membership during the campaign will receive a special gift. Member dues also help to provide scholarships to students. Alumni will have a chance to meet those who are directly benefitting from their membership dues, as this year’s Legacy Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the campaign kickoff event. Other benefits are hotel, car rental and YSU Bookstore discounts.
“Being an Alumni Society member is a way to stay connected to your alma mater while helping future Penguins fund their education,” LeViseur said. “Plus there are members-only perks.”
Following the news conference, light refreshments will be served. Alumni and members of the media will also have a chance to peruse YSU memorabilia, past and present. Alumni can also enter drawings for prizes.
Free parking is provided in the F1 parking lot on University Plaza, behind the Alumni House. For more information, visit the YSU alumni website or call 330-941-3497.
YSU has more than 90,000 alumni across the world, with more than half living in Ohio. Nearly 7,500 live in Pennsylvania, and roughly 3,000 reside in Florida.
YSU Alumni House is located at the corner of Wick Avenue and University Plaza, across the street from Pollock House.
