Frank A. D’Isa
Frank A. D’Isa, retired professor of Engineering, died Feb. 18. He was 92.
D’Isa earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Youngstown College in 1943. In 1947, he joined the engineering faculty at Youngstown College, and nine years later was named chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department, a position he held until retiring in 1992. Among his many accomplishments, D’Isa received the Watson Distinguished Professor Award, and Watson Chairperson Merit Award twice, and the prestigious “Heritage Award” for lifetime achievement.
The family has requested donations to Mahoning County Right to Life or the YSU Mechanical Engineering Department.
Zbigniew Piotrowski, professor of Mathematics and Statistics, died Jan. 29 of pancreatic cancer. He was 61.
Piotrowski, a native of Poland who came to the United States in 1981, had been a YSU faculty member for 30 years and had published more than 70 scholarly articles in the field of Topology and Real Functions. He served as a visiting professor for many universities around the world and had been invited to speak at numerous conferences across the world.
