Five senior producer/directors of YSU’s Homework Express, a math homework help TV program, traveled to Las Vegas this April to present their focus group research at the Broadcast Education Association National Convention.
These telecommunications studies majors—from left, senior Emily Russo of Lowellville, junior Bill Rusu of Youngstown, junior Jillian Anderson of Warren, junior Jon McKelvey of Girard and senior Natasha Clark of Youngstown—presented in front of educators, administrators and industry professionals from colleges and universities across the country at the convention, held in conjunction with the National Association of Broadcasters Convention.
In their study, target audience members provided reactions to and suggestions about elements of Homework Express in a guided question-and-answer forum. The five students presented their findings in a prepared open presentation with a question-answer forum that followed.
The audience research project was guided by Amy Crawford, associate professor of Communication, and Homework Express Project Director Fred Owens, professor of Communication, who joined the students in Las Vegas. Plans are underway to incorporate the findings of the study into the content and production of future episodes of Homework Express.
