Free tax preparation available at YSU through VITA program

VITAIt’s tax time, and that means another year of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in the Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance at Youngstown State University.

Trained YSU business students and professional volunteers will provide income tax preparation at no charge. The program begins on Saturday, Feb. 7, and sessions run through April 11. The sessions will be in computer labs on the first floor of Williamson Hall on the YSU campus. Dates and times listed below.

VITA offers free income tax assistance to taxpayers and evaluates credits and deductions for which they may be eligible. Free electronic filing is also available. VITA volunteers must complete an IRS training course and pass certification tests in income tax return preparation before they can assist taxpayers.

Taxpayers who visit a VITA site should bring social security card, photo ID, wage and earnings statements (Form W-2) from all employers; interest, dividend and investment/stock sales statements (Forms 1099); a copy of last year’s tax return if available; and other relevant information about income and expenses. If you are not sure whether it is needed, bring it!

Williamson Hall is located on 221 North Hazel Street between Rayen Avenue and Wood Street on the YSU campus.

Walk-ins are welcome. For more information or to make an appointment, call the Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance at 330-941-2507.
