President Randy J. Dunn and Board of Trustees Chair Sudershan Garg present an honorary Doctor of Letters degree to award-winning reporter Simeon Booker at Fall commencement in December in Beeghly Center. Booker’s coverage of the Mississippi murder of Emmett Till in 1955 is credited with galvanizing the Civil Rights movement. Nearly 620 students received degrees. Below, Alfred L. Bright, an internationally renowned artist and trail-blazing African American educator, set up in the back of the hall to sketch the ceremony. Bright, retired professor of Art at YSU, was the featured speaker at summer commencement in August.
