Anna Ruscitti spends her days in an office outside Bliss Recital Hall, listening to students practice instrumentals and vocals for upcoming performances, while she creates the programs and prepares the press releases for those events.
With the official title of Administrative Assistant, Ruscitti gets the information about the Dana Concert Series and University Theater productions anywhere from a few weeks to sometimes only a few days in advance. She creates the programs to go along with each show, works with the YSU Print Shop and Graphic Services to coordinate printing of the materials as well as other items created by graphic designers, and communicates with the media to promote the events. In the month of November alone, there were 25 to 30 events on the Dana School of Music calendar.
“I haven’t missed a deadline yet,” said Ruscitti, who has worked at YSU for 6.5 years.
Beyond programs and press releases, Ruscitti is responsible for preparing and processing contracts for guest performers, monitoring six budget accounts, and completing requisitions and invoices for the Performing Arts Series. The most rewarding part of her job, though, is mentoring the students she supervises in the University Theater Box Office as well as those she interacts with on campus, showing them how to become professionals in the workplace.
“You get to know the students from when they come in to when they graduate. It’s great to watch where they go, be it furthering their education or going out into the world,” she explained.
Ruscitti also enjoys working with the Summer Festival of the Arts, where she coordinates with the artists for their information and applications and assists the artists with any needs during the event.
“I don’t consider that work; it’s fun” she said.
A Boardman resident, Ruscitti enjoys running, spending time with her family and volunteering with her church.
