YSU wins fourth Healthy Worksite Award

Healthy_Ohio_LogoFor the fourth consecutive year, the Ohio Department of Health has recognized Youngstown State University with the Healthy Worksite Award.

For 2014, YSU earned a Silver Award, the health department announced last month. It is the second straight year that YSU placed in the Silver category. YSU received Bronze Awards in 2011 and 2012. YSU won the honor in the Large Business category. In all, 46 awards were presented, out of 71 applicants. YSU is the only university in the state to receive an award.

The awards recognize Ohio employers that demonstrate a commitment to employee health by incorporating comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs. The awards will be presented at the 11th annual Healthy Ohio Healthy Worksite Awards ceremony Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus, as part of the Health Action Council 2015 Annual Conference.

“Poor nutrition, inactive and sedentary lifestyles, tobacco use, and alcohol and drug use limit our potential to be productive Ohioans,” said Dr. Andrew Wapner, chief of the Bureau of Healthy Ohio at ODH. “This is why a comprehensive approach to preventive health and wellness at worksites is an essential part of improving both the health of Ohioans and the overall success of our state. Healthy Ohio Healthy Worksite Award winners are leading the way in this effort by making a healthy work environment a priority for their employees.”
