YSU student wins selective national HR scholarship

Paige Rassega

Paige Rassega of Mineral Ridge, a senior human resource student at Youngstown State University, is one of only six students nationwide to receive the 2014 Society of Human Resource Management Foundation Undergraduate Academic Award Scholarship.

The scholarship is $2,500.

Rassega will graduate in May 2015. She has accepted a full-time position as human resource coordinator with The Brilex Group upon graduation.

She is the president of the student chapter of SHRM and a peer mentor for the Center for Student Progress at YSU. She is also a student member of the Williamson College of Business Administration Dean’s Student Leadership Council, Enactus, National Society for Collegiate Scholars, Sigma Alpha Lambda, Student Diversity Council and Golden Key Honor Society. She is also a Presidential Mentor and completed the Emerging Leader Program at YSU. She served twice as an intern for the John D. Beeghly Fellows Program with the Small Business Development Center and the International Trade Assistance Center at YSU and also recently completed a second human resource management internship with Brilex Industries, Inc.

She is active as “Big Sister” with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mahoning Valley, where she organized the Big Brothers Big Sisters Giving Tree project that provided gifts for more than 80 children. She also organized the Let’s Can Hunger Project on the YSU campus.

Awards and honors for Rassega include the Prudential Spirit of Excellence in Ohio Award, President’s Volunteer Service Award, John Phillip Sousa Band Award, Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, AVI Leadership Award and the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
