Check out what's happening this week at Youngstown State University.Sunday, Sept. 22, 4 p.m. The YSU Dana School of Music hosts a free guest artist recital in Bliss Recital Hall featuring pianist Zahari Metchkov, who will perform a repertoire including selections from Beethoven, Liszt and Wagner. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m. YSU soccer plays Cedarville at Farmers National Bank Field on campus.

America's Music

Wednesday, Sept. 25, 7 p.m. “America’s Music: A Film History of Our Popular Music from Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway,” a free six-part program that focuses on uniquely American musical traditions, kicks off in Stambaugh Auditorium on Fifth Avenue in Youngstown. More here.

Thursday, Sept. 26, 9 to 11 a.m. YSU joins forces with Educators and Community Helping Hispanics Onward and Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana Inc. to host the annual ECHHO College Fair as part of the National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. The fair is at OCCHA, 3660 Shirley Road in Youngstown. More here:

Thursday, Sept. 26, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Wal-Mart Career Fair Cookout will be held at Kilcawley Center, Fountain/Core (Inclement weather, Chestnut Room) on the YSU campus. The event will have three informational rotations: Careers at Wal-Mart, the Culture at Wal-Mart and Charitable Efforts made by Wal-Mart. Thursday, Sept. 26, 6 p.m. “Success in Urban School Districts” is the topic of a presentation Thursday, Sept. 26, as part of the YSU Alumni Lecture Series. The presentation, which features a panel discussion by local education leaders, is in McKay Auditorium in the Beeghly College of Education at YSU. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28, 8 p.m. Ward Beecher Planetarium features “Fall Skywatch.” Also, at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, the planetarium shows “This is Our Sky.” Free. More information at

Saturday, Sept. 28, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Market Street Muppets, a non-profit, faith-based group of urban youth ages 12 to 18, perform at the Main Branch of the Public Library, 305 Wick Avenue, Youngstown. Saturday, Sept. 28, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students of YSU associated with the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor are sponsoring an “Antique Appraisal Day” at the Center, 151 W. Wood St. in Youngstown. Several experts and appraisers will attend, including generalists and specialists in late 18th and early 19th century items, clocks, artwork, jewelry, and much more. Sunday, Sept. 29, 3 p.m. The Cleveland Orchestra’s Assistant Concertmaster Alexandra Preucil and Cicilia Yudha, pianist in YSU’s Dana School of Music, are featured in a concert in Bliss Recital Hall on the YSU campus. More here.
