YSU presents “Holiday Cabaret” on Friday

Youngstown State University’s Department of Theater and Dance announces that Penguin Playhouse and Alpha Psi Omega, University Theater’s student-run production arm, will perform a Holiday Cabaret, 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 in YSU’s Spotlight Theater.

This family-centered show, directed by Nancy Andersen Wolfgang with accompaniment by Jack Ciarnello, features seasonal favorites designed to get audiences into the holiday spirit, including songs, scenes from holiday-inspired shows, sing-alongs and storytelling for children. Some of the selections include Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep; a reading of Clement C. Moore’s ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas; Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, and Baby, It’s Cold Outside. In addition, several holiday themed skits will complete the 45-minute show.

Students performing are: Rebecca Anderson, Connor Bezeredi, Justin Brown, John Cruz, Claudia Gage, Brittney Grant, Katie Jerome, Matthew Malloy, Zara Markman, Natalie Martzial, Emily Shipley, Kelly Sullivan and Eric Shonk.

Since the show is held in Spotlight Theater where seats are limited, patrons are advised to purchase tickets early. Tickets are $8 for adults, and $5 for senior citizens, students and children. For more information, call 330-941-3105.

Additionally, the company of students will perform during the Pre-Show of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s production of The Nutcracker in Pittsburgh on Sunday, Dec. 8 prior to the 4:30 p.m. performance. Patrons must purchase a ticket to the ballet to see the company perform.
