Youngstown State University hosts the Ohio Council on Holocaust Education’s Ohio Educator Workshop titled Echoes and Reflections, at 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, June 10, in the Presidential Suites of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus.
The focus of the free workshop deals with instruction of middle and high school teachers throughout the state of Ohio, in the history and pedagogy of the Holocaust and genocide. Sarah Weiss, executive director of the Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education, will facilitate training. The workshop features presentations by Helene Sinnreich, director of the Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies at YSU, and a local Holocaust survivor.
The Ohio Council on Holocaust Education, housed at YSU, provides Holocaust and genocide education and resources for teachers throughout the state of Ohio. Founded in 1986, it currently serves as a clearinghouse of information about Holocaust educational opportunities and programming around the state of Ohio. Read more at http://www.oche.org.
Teachers from public, private and parochial schools throughout Ohio are invited to attend the workshop and lunch at no cost. Participants will receive a free copy of the Echoes and Reflections curriculum, with access to lesson plans, primary sources, handouts, pictures, video testimonies and more.
