David E. Stout, professor and Andrews Chair in Accounting, and Jill McCullough, assistant professor, Accounting and Finance, have been included in the list of the Top 22 Business Professors in Ohio. Also, Donna J. McNierney, professor of Educational Foundations, Research, Technology and Leadership, and Richard W. VanVoorhis, assistant professor, Counseling, Special Education and School Psychology, have been included in the list of the Top 22 Education Professors in Ohio. The lists were published by statestats.org, which sought to highlight post-secondary educators for excellence in the classroom, on campus and/or in the community.
Karen Kaiser Lee, assistant professor, English, will present her paper, “Introducing Primary Research Skills to First-Year Composition Students,” at the Conference on College Composition and Communication in Las Vegas. She also wrote a book chapter titled “The Research Paper Project in the Undergraduate Writing Course” in the edited collection The New Digital Scholar, published by Information Today Inc.
Amy Weaver, instructor, Nursing, has made the following presentations: “Simulation in Healthcare Education and Practice: Today and in the Future” at the Ohio Consortium of Nursing Learning Labs Summit, University of Akron; “Successful Debriefing” at the Laerdal Simulation User Network Meeting at the University of Akron; “Leadership Roles & Lifelong Learning with Simulation” at the Ohio League for Nursing Summit in Columbus; and “Simulation Demonstration Using the SimMan 3G” at the National League for Nursing Education Summit in Anaheim, Calif.
Will Greenway, professor, English, had his poem “Rings” published online in Handful of Dust # 9 (February 14, 2013): 15, and poems “Perrfect” and “Wanted” published in FutureCycle (2012): 26, 27.
Patrick J. Bateman, assistant professor, Management, Adam C. Earnheardt, assistant professor, Communication, Priscilla Gitimu, assistant professor, Human Ecology, Hazel Marie, associate professor, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Albert Sumell, associate professor, Economics, and Richard VanVoorhis, assistant professor, Counseling, Special Education and School Psychology, were named to the list of 2012 Excellence in Education Honorees by Ohio Magazine.
Abdurrahman “Abdu” Arslanyilmaz, assistant professor, Computer Science & Information Systems, published a research article entitled “Computer-Assisted Foreign Language Instruction: Task-Based vs. Form-focused” in the Journal of Computer Assisted Learning.
Gail Saunders-Smith, assistant professor, Teacher Education, was a featured speaker at the Canadian National Reading Recovery Conference in Toronto. Her talk, “What We Say Does Matter,” examined the types, content and purposes of teacher responses to student utterances during instructional events.
Martha Pallante, Donna DeBlasio and Tom Leary, faculty in Applied History, will present a panel on Industrial Heritage Preservation, Interpretation and Planning in Ohio’s Steel Valley at the July 2013 conference “Rust, Regeneration, and Romance: Iron and Steel Landscapes and Cultures,” sponsored by the University of Birmingham and held in Ironbridge, England.
