Check out what's happening this week at Youngstown State University.Tuesday, Dec. 4, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The YSU SMARTS – Students Motivated by the ARTS – Holiday Open House reception will be at the SMARTS Center at 258 Federal Plaza West in downtown Youngstown. Cake and punch will be served.

Tuesday, Dec. 4. The YSU Board of Trustees meets on the following schedule: Noon, Luncheon and Presentation, Alyssa Lenhoff and Tim Francisco; 1 p.m., Investment Subcommittee; 2 p.m., Audit Subcommittee; 3 p.m.,  Finance and Facilities Committee.

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 12:15 p.m. The weekly Music at Noon concert in the Butler Institute of American Art features a Clarinet Studio Recital from the YSU Dana School of Music. Free.

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. Start your holiday season in style with the Carols & Cocoa and Dana Holiday Concert  in Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Avenue. More here.

Thursday, Dec. 6, 7:05 p.m. Men’s basketball plays Geneva at Beeghly Center. The men also play Hiram on Saturday, Dec. 8, 7:05 p.m. at the Covelli Center in Youngstown. More at YSU Sports.

Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8, 8 p.m. YSU faculty Matt O’Mansky and Pat Durrell present “The Maya Prophecy Explained” at the Ward Beecher Planetarium on the YSU campus. The presentation focuses on the significance of Dec. 21, 2012, both as to the origin of the Maya calendar and the people who created it, and an exploration of the many astronomical and other “doomsday” predictions that have been suggested to occur on that date. Free.

Sunday, Dec. 9, 3:05 p.m. Women’s basketball takes on Wilmington (Ohio) in Beeghly Center. More at YSU Sports.
