Business college hosts Junior Achievement program

High school students will gain experience operating virtual companies when Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration hosts the fourth annual Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thurs., March 14.

Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley officials expect 21 student teams from Mahoning and Trumbull counties to participate in the event at YSU’s Williamson Hall. Each two- or three-member team will work with a local business mentor to learn about running a company in a competitive, high-tech marketplace.

The teams will use an interactive online business simulation called JA Titan that is designed to compliment high school economics, math and social studies curriculum. Participants will determine the success or failure of their businesses based on how they manage key issues such as price setting, marketing, research and development and capital equipment purchases.

The Mahoning Valley JA Titan Business Challenge is sponsored by the Williamson College, the Home Savings Charitable Foundation and Falcon Foundry. For more information, call Christine Shelton at the Williamson College, 330-941-3068.
