A bench on the grounds of the Beeghly College of Education at Youngstown State University will be dedicated on Wednesday, July 31, in memory of Philip Ginnetti, the late dean of the college.
Two ceremonies are planned: 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The bench and the site of the ceremonies are on the Lincoln Avenue side of Beeghly Hall. The ceremonies will include remarks and an unveiling of the plaque, followed by light refreshments.
Ginnetti, a lifelong educator in the Youngstown area, died in June 2012 at the age of 61. He earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education from YSU and a doctorate in elementary education curriculum from the University of Akron. He worked 25 years at YSU as a faculty member, chair of the Department of Teacher Education, assistant dean and, in 2002, as dean of the Beeghly College of Education. In 2010, he became provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Edinboro University.
The bench was purchased and installed through the efforts of area teachers and alumni of the Beeghly College and donations to the YSU Campus Beautification Initiative.
