Check out what's happening this week at Youngstown State University.Sunday, April 14, 2 p.m. The Dana School of Music hosts a recital featuring the Bella Armonia Piano Trio in Bliss Recital Hall. The trio consists of Mariana Szalaj, violin; Maria Fesz, cello; and Diane Yazvac, piano and will perform pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Gabriel Faure and Edouard Lalo. The concert is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, April 16. The 2013 Emerging Leaders program, presented by the YSU Williamson College of Business Administration and the Small Business Development Center at YSU, starts in Williamson Hall. More here.

Tuesday, April 16. More than 500 high school students and 22 educators attend “Financial Starting Points” in YSU’s Kilcawley Center. More here.

Tuesday, April 16. The YSU Board of Trustees meets on the following schedule: 4 p.m., University Affairs Committee, President’s Conference Room, Second Floor, Tod Hall; 6 p.m., Special Board of Trustees Meeting, Board Meeting Room, First Floor, Tod Hall.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 17, 18 and 19. The YSU English Festival celebrates its 35th year this week and welcomes its 100,000th student participant. More than 3,000 middle school and high school students will attend the festival in YSU’s Kilcawley Center. More here.

Wednesday, April 17, noon. The Dana School of Music’s Brass Chamber Ensembles performs a free Music at Noon concert in the Butler Institute of American Art.

Wednesday, April 17, 6:30 p.m. The Beeghly College of Education at YSU presents the 11th annual Alumni Awards Dinner in McKay Auditorium in Beeghly Hall. More here.

Thursday, April 18, 10:30 a.m. News conference in the Atrium of Williamson Hall to announce a gift from a major university donor.

Thursday, April 18, 3 and 5 p.m. Women’s softball plays a doubleheader against Loyola at McCune Park. The squads square off again 3 p.m. Friday, April 19. The Penguins follow that series with a three-game set with Green Bay at McCune: 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20, and noon Sunday, April 21.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday April 18, 19, 20 and 21. YSU’s Performing Arts Series and the Dana School of Music present Engelbert Humperdinck’s opera Hansel and Gretel in Bliss Hall’s Ford Theater on the YSU campus. Thursday, April 18, 8 p.m. The Dana Guitar Ensembles perform in Bliss Recital Hall, featuring classical and contemporary with selections from Gershwin, Bach, Gismonti and Porter. More here.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 19, 20 and 21. The YSU men’s baseball team plays a three-game series with UIC at Eastwood Field in Niles. Games start at 1 p.m.

Saturday, April 20, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. YSU is among the sponsors of the 300 Sisters in Red in Kilcawley Center. The program offers a full slate of health-related activities and speakers. More here

Saturday, April 20, 9 a.m. to noon. The YSU American Medical Student Association hosts the first annual 5k for the Kids to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. The run starts and ends at the YSU tennis courts. Refreshments will be provided and prizes will be awarded to the winner of each division. Registration is $15 for students and $20 for non-students.
