Travelers landing at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport will know for certain that they are in Penguin country thanks to a new marketing venture.

Large photo collages and Pete the Penguin decals were recently installed in the terminal and departure lounge, and more displays are planned in the months to come.

Mark Van Tilburg, executive director of Marketing and Communications, said that Dan Dickten, director of aviation, contacted him about YSU’s participation in a major upgrade to the airport terminal.

“They were hoping to get us involved because they wanted the airport to have a real sense of the university and the city,” Van Tilburg said. “They were willing to give us the wall space for free, if we would pay for the graphics and have them put up, which we were happy to do. It’s a tremendous opportunity to expose travelers to YSU.”

Bruce Palmer, photographer, and Renee Cannon, graphic artist, produced and designed the photos and graphics.  In addition, “A Penguin’s Dream,” one of the 30, 5-foot-tall fiberglass penguins decorated by local artists in 2003, has also been installed in the terminal.
