Youngstown State University’s public radio service – 88.5 WYSU FM – is striving to raise $115,000 during on-air spring pledge drive April 8 through April 11.
Donors making pledges by the end of the drive will be entered into the drawing to win two spots on an 11-day cruise to Alaska in summer 2015. Throughout the drive, the station will also be offering Daily Prize Packages, a New Member Prize Package, and a Pennsylvania Member Prize Package. In addition, an Early Bird Prize Package is open to all members who pledge before the start of the on-air portion of the drive.
WYSU’s bi-annual fund drives are critical to the station’s success. “Funding for public radio is swinging more towards community funding, which means it is increasingly important that we as members, institutions and businesses support this great community asset,” said Gary Sexton, WYSU director of broadcasting. “Public radio brings many good things to a community – excellent news programming, wonderful music, great entertainment. Its presence speaks volumes about the vitality and intellectual vibrancy of that community.”
The on-air drive will span just 72 hours – a time frame that has worked well for WYSU for the past six drives. Sexton also said that more supporters are choosing to give online. “It is very easy to make your donation online at wysu.org; just click on the ‘become a member’ link,” he said.
