Youngstown State University’s College of Creative Arts and Communication, in collaboration with Chaney Visual and Performing Arts High School in Youngstown, is launching a college preparatory workshop for students to explore college options in the creative arts and communication disciplines.
The Creative Start workshop will bring Chaney’s visual and performing arts students to the YSU campus for active hands-on experience in a college classroom, allowing them to explore some of the ways creativity can impact their lives and their future career opportunities.
“This collaboration is a wonderful example of how an academic college and a school district can partner to guide high school students toward college preparedness,” said Bryan DePoy, CCAC dean.
Tracy Schuler-Vivo, VPA Coordinator at Chaney, said Creative Start, “aligns perfectly with the goals of Chaney’s Visual and Performing Arts program” by allowing high school students to explore college options as they transition from the VPA program into higher education.
The Creative Start partnership is the first step in what CCAC faculty members hope will become a strong college preparatory experience for high school students across the region. For more information, contact the College of Creative Arts and Communication, 330-941-3625.
