Students in Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration, as well as accounting and finance students from other nearby colleges, will attend the 17th Annual Accounting and Finance Student/Practitioner Day from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in the Conference Center of Williamson Hall on the YSU campus.
Students will attend panel sessions on topics such as employment opportunities in public, management, governmental, and nonprofit accounting; employment opportunities in financial services; accounting entrepreneurship; forensic accounting; communication and networking skills; professional exams; graduate school; accounting for manufacturing; accounting issues for small businesses; the Certified Financial Planner and the Certified Financial Analyst certifications; what to expect in the first two years of professional life; and speed networking. Human resource representatives from accounting and financial service firms will also be available.
The event is hosted by YSU’s Williamson College of Business Administration in conjunction with the YSU Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance, Beta Alpha Psi, the Institute of Management Accountants, and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Student Ambassador.
At 1 p.m., Kelly Pope, a professor at DePaul University, will give the keynote presentation titled “Whistle Blowing and the Financial Services Professional – The Case for Courage.” Pope is known nationally for her work in educating accountants about the pervasiveness and importance of ethical issues in the field.
