Corey Baker joined the YSU community two semesters ago as a freshman telecommunications major, and already he’s making strides in his field.
Baker of Andover recently won a $1,000 scholarship, placing third out of several hundred entries in the 2010 Take Action Video Contest, sponsored by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Ohio Council on Economic Education. Along with partner James Tabor, Baker produced an entertaining, informative video that promotes Internet safety and identity protection awareness. Watch the video here.
In addition, Baker has previously placed in the SkillsUSA competition “Video Product Development,” taking home first place in both the regional and state levels and fifth at nationals with partner Jeff Hogan, also a YSU student.
Baker said a large portion of his video skills resulted from a multimedia satellite class from the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School, where he worked to learn all aspects of the trade—from photo retouching to music composition to public relations and product promotion. He hopes to someday run his own business and is excited to continue learning more about the field in his YSU classes.
