A simulation of what it is like to live in poverty will be held 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.
To register, call 330-941-2465 or email email@example.com.
The Community Action Poverty Simulation is sponsored and facilitated by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks and co-sponsored by the YSU Bitonte College of Health and Human Services, Bridges Out of Poverty Student Union, Metro College Southwoods and Metro Credit Lincoln Building.
The simulation is an interactive experience designed to help participants begin to understand the struggles of individuals living in poverty, including the stress and lack access to resources that individuals frequently experience. Each participant is assigned a family and a role within that family, such as a child, parent or grandparent. Each family needs to keep their housing secure, keep or find employment, pay bills and feed their family. Other goals may include getting an education, seeking social service supports, cashing checks or getting transportation vouchers.
