Registration deadline is April 30 to attend the Williamson College of Business Administration’s Ohio Business Week at Youngstown State University, Sunday, June 24 to Saturday, June 30.
More than 5,800 high school students from across Ohio have participated in the annual OBW summer program over the past 11 years.
Registrations must be postmarked by April 30. The registration fee is $350. Limited financial aid is available. Students may either apply via the online application or download the application for mailing. Current high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors can register. Most activities take place in Kilcawley Center at YSU.
“YSU plays a crucial role in helping the Foundation prepare Ohio’s youth for future leadership roles in the business community,” said John Davis, executive director of the Ohio Business Week Foundation. “After attending OBW at YSU, students will emerge from the program with the skills necessary for success in higher education and the work force.”
“Our partnership with Ohio Business Week enables us to engage high school students across the state in learning about entrepreneurship, business and business ethics,” said Betty Jo Licata, WCBA dean. “Each summer, Ohio Business Week participants leave our campus with a better understanding of themselves and what it takes to succeed in college and in the business world.”
During the weeklong program, participants form “companies” comprised of 10 to 12 students. Under the guidance of a loaned executive, each company develops an idea for an innovative new product and transforms that idea into a start-up business venture. Each company researches and writes business, financial and marketing plans, designs a web page, constructs a trade show display and creates an advertising campaign to promote their product. At the end of the week, each company gives a presentation before a panel of judges.
Advisors and guest speakers represent large and small businesses from around the state. Students will attend workshops on: elements of cost, marketing and advertising, personal finance, business communications, ethics, customer service and entrepreneurship.
