May Day concert with Andy Grammer on Thursday

A free May Day 2012 outdoor concert, featuring singer/songwriter Andy Grammer, is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3 on the campus of Youngstown State University.

The event is sponsored by YSU Penguin Productions, the Department of Campus Recreation and Student Programming, Housing & Residence Life and the YSU Student Government Association.

Admission and food are free to all YSU students with a valid ID. The concert will be on the tennis/basketball courts, also known as Rec 5, outside of Kilcawley Center. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.

The Strange Familiar

Grammer, who has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Live with Regis & Kelly, is the main act for the event. Grammer has radio hits such as “Keep Your Head Up” and “Fine by Me.” One of the opening bands will be The Strange Familiar, whose music is currently featured on MTVU and on the hit CW show, The Vampire Diaries. The band’s drummer, Nicholas Sainato, is a YSU student. Also opening for Grammer will be YSU folk/pop singer/songwriter Katianne Timko, also a YSU student.
