The research of Youngstown State University biology students and a lecture by a noted dentist missionary will be featured at YSU’s seventh annual Biology Day on Thursday, April 11.
Student research will be on display in from 8:30 a.m. to noon on the third floor of Ward Beecher Hall on campus. YSU alumna Lisa Alvetro gives the Carl Sims Memorial Lecture at 12:15 p.m. in Room 3022 of Ward Beecher. The lecture is titled “YSU: Your Step Up.”
Alvetro is an orthodontist (Alvetro Orthodontics) and founder of Smiles of Hope, a non-profit organization that organizes mission trips to provide dental care in the Gamasara region of Tanzania, East Africa. She graduated in 1987, Summa Cum laude, from YSU with a bachelor’s degree and then attended Ohio State University, College of Dentistry, graduating Summa Cum laude in 1991. Alvetro completed a residency in orthodontics at Case Western Reserve University in 1993, where she currently serves as an associate professor.
