Mary B. Smith, who contributed to the life and growth of YSU for more than 30 years, died Sept. 28 at Park Vista Retirement Community in Youngstown. She was 100.
Smith came to Youngstown College in 1939 as an instructor of biology and held a succession of positions, including head of the Department of Health and Physical Education, assistant registrar, college recorder, registrar, assistant to the Dean of Admissions and Records and director of Career Planning and Placement. She retired in 1973. She was an active member of the Penguin Club and was inducted into the YSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990. Smith Hall on Fifth Avenue is named in her honor.
