Randy Hoover, who served 30 years on the faculty in the Beeghly College of Education before retiring in 2013, passed away Sept. 19. He was 71. Hoover had previously served as chair of the Department of Secondary Education. His research focused on standardized testing and the impact on public schools and teachers. Donations may be made to the Ohio History Connection. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at his home, 1317 Columbiana Road, Columbiana, Ohio 44408. An open house reception will follow the service until 5 p.m.

John N. Cernica, who served 48 years as a faculty member in the Rayen College of Engineering and Technology, passed away Sept. 19. Cernica, who earned a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown College in 1953, was chair of Engineering for 17 years. Donations may be made to Hospice House in Poland. More at www.higgins-reardon.com. George E. Sutton, former dean of the Rayen College of Engineering and Technology, died this summer. He was 93.
