Youngstown State University graduate Sara LaLumia, now associate professor of economics of Williams College in Massachusetts, speaks at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in Room 510 of the Lincoln Building as part of the J. Douglas Faires Alumni Speaker Series.
The speaker series was established in 2013 by the YSU Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics to honor Faires for his contributions to the department and his commitment to undergraduate education and research in mathematics. Faires, who earned a bachelor’s degree from YSU in 1963, joined the YSU mathematics faculty in 1969 and retired in 2006. He died in December 2012.
LaLumia, who earned a bachelor’s degree at YSU in 2000 and a PhD from the University of Michigan in 2006, will present “Cash on Hand: Tax Refunds and Unemployment Duration. ” Her fields of specialization are income and taxation policies and public finance.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
