A concert titled, “Remembering Robert E. Fleming: A Musical Tribute,” will be performed by Youngstown State University’s Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and the Dana All Star Band at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown.
The concert will be preceded by a tribute dinner at 5:30 p.m. in Stambaugh’s Anne Kilcawley Christman Memorial Hall honoring the late Robert Fleming, former YSU director of Bands. Proceeds from the dinner will fund an endowed scholarship in Fleming’s name.
The concert features John Barnes Chance’s Incantation and Dance; Kaddish, conducted by graduate student Eric Bable; Midnight on Main Street; Toccata Marziale; and Carmen Fantasie, featuring senior flutist Heidi Keener; The Pines of Rome.
The Dana All Star Band is comprised of YSU band alumni from across the region as well as from across the United States. The All Star Band will pay tribute to Fleming, whose work at YSU from 1968 to 1984 helped elevate the band program to a nationally recognized status. The All Star Band will perform a march medley, Amazing Grace and Symphony No. 1 in G Minor: IV. Finale.
