Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society presents “Crazy Like Love: An Evening of Two One-Act Plays” Friday, Saturday and Sunday March 28, 29 and 30 in Spotlight Arena Theater at Youngstown State University.
The event includes performances of “Gendermat,” by Mark Dunn, and “The New Mrs. Jones,” by James Armstrong.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30. The plays contain adult themes and language and may not be suitable for children.
Each one-act play has the same cast.
In “Gendermat,” directed by Joseph Alvey, the cast includes Lee Beitzel of Dover, Ohio, as Frances; John Cruz of Mineral Ridge, Ohio, as Francis; Theresa Leonard of Youngstown, Ohio, as Carrie; and Cameron Beebe of Cortland, Ohio, as Cary. At the end of a relationship, two characters meet in the basement laundry room of an apartment building. Four actors step in and out of the roles of Carrie/Cary and Frances/Francis to create the story of four breakups.
In “The New Mrs. Jones,” directed by Brittney Symone Grant, Sam Jones has met the woman of his dreams, his fiancé Elizabeth. Before they can live happily ever after, he will have to get her to survive a dinner party with Mother. The cast includes Beitzel as Elizabeth, Cruz as Sam, Leonard as Mrs. Jones and Beebe as Mr. Harris.
