Mari-Lynn Evans, award-winning producer of “Coal Country” and the PBS documentary, “The Appalachians,” previews her third documentary, “Blood On the Mountain,” at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor (The Steel Museum,) 151 Wood Street, in Youngstown.
After the screening, Evans will lead a discussion about the film.
The documentary chronicles how West Virginia’s history of under-regulated corporations and corrupt politics have hurt the land and tarnished the state. Recent environmental challenges include the pollution of the Elk River by 10,000 gallons of industrial chemicals that contaminated the drinking water for more than 300,000 residents.
The screening and discussion is sponsored by the YSU Center for Applied History and the YSU Center for Working Class Studies. Before the screening, Evans will meet with YSU journalism students to discuss storytelling through documentary. The event is free and open to the public.
