Work continues on the construction of a pedestrian bridge connecting the Butler Institute of American Art with the adjacent Butler North building.
“This project, once completed, will become another wonderful venue for our community,” said Lou Zona, Butler director.
During construction, the portion of the Butler’s parking lot adjacent to YSU’s Tod Hall will remain closed. The museum hopes the project is finished in early 2013.
The Butler acquired First Christian Church in 2005, renovated areas of the interior and renamed the facility Butler North. The new bridge/connector will link the main museum and Butler North. The bridge will also serve as a walkway gallery, displaying the Butler’s historic glass bell collection. The second level of the church building will be converted into galleries to exhibit the Butler’s folk art and Americana collections.
As part of the project, an elevator tower will be constructed to transport visitors to the three levels of the Butler North facility.
