Artist presents campus lecture Sept. 26

amber-kempthorn-15_virgoclown72Artist Amber Kempthorn lectures 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 in Bliss Hall’s Judith Rae Solomon Gallery on the campus of Youngstown State University.

The event is free and open to the public and is part of the YSU Department of Art Visiting Lecture Series.

Kempthorn earned a master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art, a Post Baccalaureate Certificate from Maryland Institute College of Art and a bachelor’s in Art from Hiram College.

Her drawings are made with a combination of processes – the ground is created by working sticks of pastel into the paper’s surface, the narrative and landscapes are constructed through traditional rendering, airbrushing, stencils and collage. The collage elements are selected from her collection of retired library books, which characteristically reflect the period of printed matter produced from the 1920s to the 1960s.

Parking is available in the Wick Avenue deck for a nominal fee. For more information, call 330-941-2307.
